Woman Goes into Labor While in Traffic — Highway Patrol Trooper Helps to Deliver the Baby

Early this month, a Tennessee highway patrol trooper with little medical skills was tagged a hero after he helped a pregnant woman stuck in traffic to deliver her baby boy. Inside the happenings of that fateful day.

On December 7, 2021, Aaron Ranker, a Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper, proved that not all heroes wear capes after he helped a pregnant woman stuck in traffic and in labor while driving on Interstate-40 in Tennessee’s Dickson County.

The Tennessee woman, Sharie Madrid, was caught up in the unfortunate situation after two vehicles were involved in a crash.

While most people were frustrated due to the slow pace, the woman had more important things to worry about — she was in labor. So, she phoned her mother for help in order to get through the contractions. At that moment, Ranker quickly arrived to help.

According to the trooper, his attention was called to the situation when he heard sirens wailing. Then, he called dispatch to find out what was happening and was informed about a lady on the side of the road in labor.

Before he joined the Tennessee Highway Patrol team, Ranker worked as an EMT, so he was not clueless as to how to walk Madrid through the birth of her baby. He told WSMV:

“She was what we call crowning. You could see the top of the head in the birth canal. I knew at that point birth was going to happen whether we wanted to or not.”

With his little knowledge and making the best of what he had, Ranker helped Madrid deliver a beautiful and healthy baby boy in the front seat of the car. Upon the baby’s birth, the Trooper said it was meant to be.

He told the outlet that at some point, he figured his medical background would be of help. However, he never imagined that he would ever deliver a baby on the side of the interstate.

Overall, they admitted that being proud of Ranker would be a “tremendous understatement.”

Before Ranker helped Madrid deliver her baby, he had previously helped two other women. However, he revealed that Madrid’s case was by far the most memorable.

After the news reached the Tennessee Highway Patrol, they took to their official Facebook page to commend the efforts of Ranker and to shed more light on the incident.

In the post, the THP noted that after the child was born, he and the mother were transported to the Horizon ER.  After that, Ranker ensured that Madrid’s friend was transported back to the vehicle so it would not be left on the interstate.

Alongside the lengthy post, The Tennessee Highway Patrol also shared a picture of the state trooper posing with the happy new mom in the hospital bed. Overall, they admitted that being proud of Ranker would be a “tremendous understatement.”
