Veteran and His Wife Freeze at Night until Children Build Them a Tiny Cozy Home

A veteran and his wife struggling to keep warm in the cold were surprised by local school children, who gifted them a tiny house they built themselves.

Children are amazing in more ways than one. The children in this story proved this without a doubt with a beautiful gesture made to a Navy veteran and his wife.

In 2017, Eddie Browning and his wife Cindy Browning had been living in a camper in Norwood damaged by a fire and in need of repair. However, they could not afford to fix up the trailer and struggled with the cold weather. They desperately needed help.

The much-needed help the couple sought arrived soon. However, it was not from adults but students from Elm Street Elementary in Rome, Georgia.

The school children heard about the Brownings’ need and constructed a tiny house. However, after building the house, they hit a brick wall when trying to find a legal place to situate it.

Soon, word spread about the children’s remarkable building project. Organizers of the Georgia Tiny House Festival and Ooh La La Lavender Farms allowed the kids to store the house on the farm.

They also spearheaded efforts to add electricity, plumbing, and many more amenities to the tiny house the children built.

Thanks to these additions and donations from people, the size of the house the children built increased. After several months of additions and more construction work, the house was finally ready to be presented to the Brownings.

The couple received their surprise gift during the Georgia Tiny House Festival. The children at the forefront of the tiny house’s construction were present at the festival and saw the Brownings being presented with their new home.

After being presented with the house, the Brownings were excited and moved to tears. An emotional Eddy told Fox5

“I don’t have the words to tell you what we feel.”

His wife also said she could not believe her eyes and added, “It’s a dream.” The Brownings’ new home is a massive upgrade from their camper in Norwood. Eddie certainly agreed and said

“This [the new tiny house] will be warm. We’ve been freezing to death.”

During the festival, the excited children took reporters on a tour of the newly-built home. During the tour, one of the kids remarked

“We just made a little tiny house, but now it turned into a huge house.”

The Brownings’ new home has a bathroom, kitchen, bedroom, and several appliances, including a stove, refrigerator, washer, and dryer. The joyful couple said they would take their new house back to their camper in Norwood.

While the students of Elm Street Elementary changed the lives of the Brownings with their laudable gesture, they do not plan to stop there.

Thanks to their very successful project, their school decided to build a new house every year for a family in need. One can only imagine the impact of such a continuous tradition on the kids as they grow into adults. Amazing!
