Sonny Bono Wasn’t Cher’s Love of Her Life as She Referred to ‘Bagel Boy’ as Her ‘One True Love’

Superstar American musician Cher shocked fans when she named ex-baker Robert Camilletti as her one true love from a list of famous exes.

Cher is a household name that has remained present in Hollywood for several years. She first emerged as a TV star back in the 1970s.

The goddess of pop has led a career spanning several decades and counting. During this time, she has been involved in relationships with multiple celebrities, including her famous marriage to her first husband, Sonny Bono.

Surprisingly, during an interview, Cher was asked which one of her exes was her one true love; the singer named Robert Camilletti, a former baker who was also 18 years younger than her as the one who truly stole her heart.

Warren Beatty was a notorious Playboy who had been in relationships with celebrities like Madonna and Twiggy. Beatty was 25 years old in 1962 when he met 16 years old Cher.

Cher told Playboy magazine in 1988 that she and Betty had a sexual relationship. At the time, he was in a relationship with actress Natalie Wood, popularly known for her performance in “Rebel without a Cause.”

Cher explained she was intimate with Beaty because her mother and friends were crazy about him. She further revealed it was a disappointment because she did not enjoy the act, and there was no reason for her to do it again.

It was love at first sight for Cher when she met Sonny Bono, an aspiring musician in a restaurant, in 1962 at only 16.

Contrary to how she felt, Bono told Cher he did not find her attractive and wanted her to know he was not with her because of sex. This made their relationship a bit complicated in the beginning.

Apparently, everything changed one night when he kissed her after a date. The lovebirds were married in 1964 and shortly after welcomed their first son Chaz Bono in 1969.

Their career as a couple also soared with TV shows and hits like “I Got You, Babe,” but behind the scenes, Bono was making things difficult for Cher.

He denied her any freedom, and she was not allowed to do anything apart from work. Cher also learned that Bono had cheated on her, and this made her contemplate committing suicide.

Sadly, the couple split in 1974. Bono’s musical career drifted off afterward before he eventually died in a skiing accident in 1998. Cher was present at his funeral, and she also gave the eulogy.

Geffen met Cher during the grand opening of the iconic Los Angeles club called The Roxy on September 20, 1973. Geffen, who was one of the club’s owners, was determined to take Cher on a date.

He fell in love with her, especially when Cher asked to sit on an empty chair at his table. Geffen gave her his address and invited her to dinner the following night.

The pop star declared she was the first person to share his life and bed and that they were crazy about each other. Geffen showered her with expensive gifts and also asked her to marry him.

Cher reportedly left him for Greg Allman of the Allman Brothers band, and this broke Geffen’s heart. He even went as far as threatening to take legal actions against her.

Shockingly, Geffen came out as gay a long time after, during a benefit for the AIDS project in Los Angeles during the early 1990s.

Val Kilmer was not looking forward to meeting Cher when she asked to meet him because he saw her as an uninteresting character and believed they had nothing in common.

Interestingly, after they met, Cher and Kilmer spent a whole week just talking before they eventually kissed. Of course, they had a friendship first, but as she explained, the kiss took her breath away.

They dated for two years before splitting in 1984. Cher told reporters Kilmer was too hot and intense. He was also very sensitive, artistic, had a great sense of humor, and was a very good kisser.

Cher and Sambora had a brief relationship when they lived together from 1989 till 1990. Sambora was 28 years old at the time, and he explained that Cher taught him a lot about fashion.

He released a fashion line in 2011, a collaboration with Nikki Lund called White Trash Beautiful, and he cited Cher as a major inspiration. The pop star also commended Sambora as one of the most underrated singers ever.

In May 1986, Cher was out with her friends to celebrate her 40th birthday when she met 22 years old Robert Camilletti. Camilletti was an aspiring musician whose day job was working at a bagel shop. He gave Cher his number, and soon they started dating.

According to Cher, she initially wondered what her friends would say if she went out with Camilletti, but the more she got to know him, the less she cared what anybody thought.

The music icon was surprised at the qualities Camilletti showed, but she explained it took till about Thanksgiving and Christmas in 1986 for her to fall in love with him.

Camilletti appeared in Cher’s music video of “I Found Someone” and, with her encouragement and recommendations, landed roles in “The Perfect Gentleman,” “Carnosaur 3: Primal Species,” and “NYPD Blue.”

In 1987, “The Witches of Eastwick,” a movie Cher was filming when she met Camilletti, was released. So were “Suspect” and “Moonstruck,” for which she won an Oscar.

Camilletti moved in with her and also escorted her to the Oscars in 1987, where she won and was awarded an Oscar under the Best Actress category.

Soon after the event, media publications started targeting Camilletti, and they labeled him “Bagel Boy” even though he had left the job. They were so mean to him, and he was frequently harassed by Paparazzi.

Things turned worse when Camilletti crashed into Peter Brandt’s car outside Cher’s home. Brandt, a photographer for Star magazine, heard rumors that Cher was pregnant and about to marry Camilletti.

He was parked outside their residence working on the tip when Camilletti crashed into Brandt’s Honda breaking his cameras in the process.

Police arrested Camilletti, and he was charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon. Cher posted his bail at $2000 and later defended him at a press conference.

She claimed Camilletti was not a violent person and that being a celebrity for 25 years, she has gotten used to having her private life destroyed and lies told about her.

Sadly, Camilletti and Cher broke up in 1989, and this was heavily linked to the amount of pressure they faced from the media.

Speaking to Women’s Realm Magazine years after, Cher named Camilletti as her one true love. However, she declared she missed those days with him because Camilletti made her feel young and wanted.

Cher and Camilletti remained good friends, and he has since made a career for himself as a pilot, flying celebrities in private jets. The pop star revealed they still have Christmas dinner together, and he also flew her to Jamaica.
