Kevin Costner may have mastered his art in acting, having featured in some of the best award-winning films, including “Field of Dreams” and “Yellowstone.” The actor lives his life away from the screens in the quiet and calm of his 160-acre Aspen property.
While many A-list celebrities prefer their homes set in the middle of the city with the gorgeous view of the never-ending skyscrapers, Kevin Costner chose a different path. He has a quiet life away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
His is a property that will take your breath away. Set in the heart of the Aspen, one of America’s wealthiest zip codes, Costner’s serene and green estate is nicknamed the “Aspen Independence Ranch.” It would seem like a scene out of a fantasy movie, and with good reason.

ENTRANCE LEADING INTO THE PROPERTY
The ranch, set on a 160-acre piece of land, provides a casual and calm environment for “The Bodyguard” actor and his family — wife Christine Baumgartner and their three children, Cayden, Hayes, and Grace.
The entrance to the property features highly secured yet understated front gates. A private drive surrounded by a forest of golden birches leads into the heart of the property.
Green pines make a statement along the banks of the Roaring Fork River that cascades the valley. The pristine property features three separate homes — the main house, a lake house, and a river house, comfortably accommodating 34 people.

The multi-level main house features six bedrooms, with six full and two half bathrooms. It also includes entertainment rooms, dining rooms, living areas, a chef-style kitchen, and revered outdoor spaces.
However, the most desirable feature is a trap door in the main bedroom, at the foot of the bed. The floorboards open to reveal a hidden staircase leading to a hot tub overlooking the river and rocky mountains.
Overhead the tub, the stonework features a button to switch the waterfall on and off. The exposed brick walls, dark oak ceilings, and wood columns give the residence a cabin-like feel.
The living area features gray couches arranged around a white stone fireplace. According to Amy Mottier, a Coldwell banker and a family friend, the home has a welcoming and warm, homey feel to it.
While the other two houses on the ranch are much smaller, they are not any less stunning. The lake house can accommodate up to twelve people, while the river house has a capacity of six.
The river house is the Costner family’s favorite spot on the property. They resort to it whenever they are looking to hang out. From home, one has a devastatingly magnificent view of the snowcapped mountains.
The vast grounds outside are astounding. Away from the property’s stunning view, it also features two lakes that provide year-round watersports activities for family and visitors.
The lakes are suitable for canoeing, paddleboarding, kayaking, and fishing for trophy trout. Residents here can also ice-fish during the winter season. The property also features sledding hills with music and lights for the ultimate winter experiences.
Known for his significant part in “Field of Dreams,” Costner’s love for baseball has seen him feature in at least two more baseball-based movies. He has incorporated the love of the sport on his Colorado property as well.
Unlike the baseball field from “Field of Dreams,” his is not surrounded by cornfields. Instead, it is fitted with stadium lighting and music. It is ideal for the family and anyone renting out the property as they can play comfortably even at night.
The property is available for rent and is suitable for special events, corporate retreats, and weddings. As if to set an example of how perfect the serene grounds are for a wedding, Costner married his wife there.
FINDING LOVE AND A LOVELY ASPEN WEDDING
Costner met Christine Baumgartner in the ’80s, but at the time, he was still married to his first wife, Cindy Costner. They ended up being acquaintances, but when they met again in 1999, sparks flew.
At the time, Costner was long-divorced from Cindy and was actively looking for love. The two decided to give it a shot and dated for four years. But in 2003, they split, following a disagreement on whether or not they wanted kids.
Baumgartner wanted to have children, but Costner was content with being a father to his four children —three with Cindy and one with ex-girlfriend Bridget Rooney. Costner opened up to Closer Weekly in 2018, saying:
“Fear kept me from marrying Christine. [She] wanted a child, but I was afraid I couldn’t be an effective father.”
The split was not long-lived, and once again, the two found their way back to each other. Costner said he woke up one day and realized he was about to lose a good woman due to his fears.
The bride had come to the ceremony site in a green vintage pickup truck. They said their vows by a stream, followed by a celebration with their guests.
Three years after their big day, they welcomed their first child, son Cayden. Cayden was followed by a second son, Hayes, in May 2007 and a daughter, Grace, in June 2010.

“I have played two roles in my life, one I get paid to do, which is the movies, and the other one is being a father, for which I’ll be rewarded my whole life.”
The acclaimed actor loves his movies, where he gets to play the hero. Nevertheless, he still believes that the best moments come when he wants to go home and be a father to his children.
